In 2020, we munch!

Dear Munch Diaries,

Happy New Year! 🎉

As we enter February let me remind you all that we're in a New Year, with the same hunger.

Personally, I have been ready to start this year since last August and cannot wait to get to working on my plans for TMD.

I wanted to start this years review with some soul food and major catchup with the boys. So in my true over-organised fashion, I arranged a date for us to visit the recently opened Sweet Chicks.

I hadn't seen Ola and Shaq for a while and from what I had been reading, Sweet Chicks looked like the perfect location for our dinner link up.

The menu hosts Southern comfort food classics such as collard greens, shrimp and grits, and pan fried catfish. The well thought out cocktail list features something for absolutely everyone. The chain currently has five US locations and now the London branch is definitely one to watch.

The "chicken and waffle" themed restaurant was founded by John Seymour and rapper Nas, which set my expectations sky-high! I mean come on Nasty Nas after all, the illest!

Upon arrival we were greeted by low lighting, dark wooden decor tones, and a playlist so good we broke conversation throughout the evening to search the songs on Shazam.

We were seated at the front, by the window and then spent about ten minutes rereading the menu before placing our order to the waitress.

Together we went for the signature, classic Chicken'n'Waffles each (£13.50), a bucket of biscuits served with an impressive selection of spreads (£7.00), a portion of Mac'n'Cheese (£8.00) and the Kohlrabi Slaw (£3.00).

Alongside the food, we requested an order of drinks which consisted of a Cranberry juice for Shaquille, a Orange juice for Ola and a Queen of New York cocktail (£9.00) for myself which was so good, I made sure to order another before we left. The subtle combination of Cognac and Sparkling Rosé make this refreshingly light drink perfect for the summer season. For those who aren't big drinkers I highly recommend trying this.

The waffles, in my opinion, were cooked to perfection. Lightly dusted with powdered sugar, providing a crispy yet fluffy texture. If you're a fellow waffle lover like me then you could eat these on their own!
Served with two pieces of fried chicken which had been brined in sweet tea overnight, which I took great pleasure in drenching in Maple Syrup as I attempted countless boomerangs.

The Kohlbari Slaw tasted fresh and wasn't overly laced in mayonnaise to bind it together (unlike other American style diners) giving it a really crunchy texture.

In all honesty, the boys and I couldn't finish our food so we ended up taking the rest away in 'doggy bags'. I can't say I gave the biscuits a good go, but as they were served with four different accompaniments I shall be reordering this on my next visit.

Overall, I'd most definitely revisit Sweet Chicks and look forward to confirmation of their bottomless brunch announcement (as promoted on their Instagram page).

Vibe - For me, Sweet Chicks have nailed the chilled vibes to a T! From the relaxed style customer service

Munch - I'd liked to try more of the menu on my return visit and really indulge on their take on Southern comfort food.

Triple R - I shall be returning soon and recommend everyone pop by and try the Chicken'n'Waffles!

Making my Total Rating Score - 3.5/5
