Prezzo

Food so good we had to visit twice this week? Prezzo was indeed everything and more. I share a wonderful love of Italian cuisine with my best friend and Prezzo had been on our ‘to eat list’ for a while now, so what better way to discover it than to simply make a visit. I must admit, as much as I had very high expectations I had no idea I’d end up going twice in a week. Our first visit was to the Haymarket branch and our second at the Northumberland Avenue branch. It would be fair to say we both preferred the Haymarket visit, as it was quieter and just a little more intimate.

Prezzo captured our attention the moment we walked into their Haymarket branch, the aroma of warm dough seemed to leak from the open wooden oven situated near our table, had our mouths watering before we had even peaked at our menu’s. This only added to the already quite beautifully romantic ambience. After ordering our drinks, we then had to ask the waitress for extra time to decide on what we’d eat. I find I only struggle when presented with an extremely good menu as appose to a not so good one, where by which I can merely find one dish to tickle my fancy. About seven minutes later we had decided on two starters to share, one being Baked Mushrooms (£5.35) which were deliciously stuffed with grana padano cheese, garlic onions and breadcrumbs and the other Crab Cakes  (£5.75) which was served with a yummy garlic mayonnaise. Both starters were to die for and with the added bonus of how hungry we were having spent a day shopping till we dropped, our starters hit the spot perfectly.

For our mains I chose to try the ‘lighter’ version of the highlighter popular Spaghetti with King Prawns (£11.95) which came with a mixed salad and low calorie Italian dressing. San went for the Pollo E Spinaci (£10.25), which not only looked gorgeous on the plate but was filled with scrumptious food as well as being served with a crispy baked flatbread. Unfortunately yet again we had not an inch of room for a dessert but promised ourselves to indulge on our next visit… two days later!

Our second visit at the Northumberland Avenue entailed us eating the Grilled Goats Cheese starter ‘to share’ we which both found interesting to say the least in terms of flavour and it reminded me of my strange combo of smearing strawberry jam onto my cheese on toast, yet the starter unlike my weird combo was less satisfying and we found ourselves removing the caramelised balsamic onions. We followed that up with our mains from the ‘guilt free special’ menu, San had the Duo of Salmon Pizza (£10.25) which was basically two mini flatbread pizzas served with a lovely avocado salad. Where as I went for the Penne Chicken Arrabbiata (£9.50) that disappointed me merely because, it was more chilli than any other seasonings. We topped that off by sharing the Honeycomb Smash Cheesecake (£5.20). Although we prefer our first visit, we will definitely be returning.
